Shannon Murphy, one of only two female directors to have a film showing in competition at this year's Venice Film Festival, wowed critics with her debut feature Babyteeth.
Based on Rita Kalnejais's play, the Australian filmmaker's bittersweet tale tells the story of a couple who discover their seriously ill teenage daughter has fallen for a drug dealer. Featuring high profile Australian stars (Ben Mendelsohn, Essie Davis and Eliza Scanlen) the film has won praise for its 'wicked sense of humour' (according to Variety's Guy Lodge), and its stand out performances, including that of Danny Wallace who won Venice’s Marcello Mastroianni Award for best young actor. Murphy's next project will see her directing episodes five and six of the third series of Killing Eve.
